Stretch Your Dollar: Smart Ways to Bring Art Into Your Home
Art can transform a house into a home, filling it with personality and inspiration. But for many, buying art can feel like a luxury. The good news is, you don’t need a sky-high budget to own beautiful pieces. Here are some tips to make your dollar go further when buying art, without compromising on quality or style.
1. Buy Unframed Prints
Frames can significantly add to the cost of art. Save money by purchasing unframed prints and framing them yourself—many budget-friendly stores offer stylish options, and DIY framing can be both affordable and fun. Currently, I don’t offer framed prints because I know my customers can often frame pieces more affordably than I can through my printing vendor. That said, if you’d prefer not to handle framing yourself, I’m happy to accommodate framing requests. Feel free to message me, and we can discuss pricing and options!
2. Buy Smaller Prints and Frame Bigger
A smaller print can have just as much impact as a larger one when framed strategically. By choosing a smaller piece and pairing it with a wide mat and a larger frame, you can create a bold, eye-catching display. This approach not only saves money but also allows you to tailor the presentation to your space. For instance, purchasing an 8” x 8” print with a 1” border transforms it into a 10” x 10” piece. You can further enhance its presence by adding a larger mat and frame, making the artwork a centerpiece in your room.
3. Create a Gallery Wall with Smaller Prints
Smaller works are typically more affordable. Frame several of these pieces and arrange them as a gallery wall. This approach adds personality to your space while staying within budget.
4. Support Emerging Artists
Discovering talented emerging artists (like me!) is not only exciting but also budget-friendly. Many artists just starting out sell their work at accessible prices. Purchasing from them not only brings art into your home but also supports their creative journey.
5. Visit Art Fairs and Markets
Art fairs and local markets are treasure troves for unique, affordable pieces. Many artists offer discounts at these events, and you can often find smaller works or prints that suit your budget.
A Final Thought
Art is for everyone, and there’s no “right” way to enjoy it. Whether you’re buying a small print or framing an item that speaks to you, the goal is to surround yourself with pieces that make you happy. Supporting artists, no matter your budget, helps keep creativity thriving—and that’s a win for everyone.
